Overview:
SS&C Technologies Holdings, Inc. is an American multinational financial technology company that sells software and software as a service to the financial services industry. For more than 25 years, their TRAC® retirement account servicing platform has helped recordkeepers drive more efficient processes, move critical yet formerly cumbersome procedures online, and implement a flexible platform for growth. The platform services 400k plans and 12m+ participants.
The Problem:
After developing our redsigned Flagship TRAC® retirement account servicing platform, we decided that for the consistency and efficiency of future enhancements and products, it would be essential to make the components part of a design manangement system. There was an issue though, because the TRAC® product was designed in Adobe XD and we were transition to Figma, the new DMS had to be in Figma, so we were essentially starting from scratch.
The Goal:
Create a design managment system from the TRAC® product in Figma.
The Team:
I was the point person on this project; managing the weekly meetings, coordinating logistics, designing new components and writing documentation. The team consisted of a manager, and four designers including myself. There were two of us who were active contributors.
The Process: When creating each component or group, I did a keep the requirements of each component in mind, did an audit, and then
Anatomy of a Component:
I needed to come up with criteria for what would be included in the DMS for each component. I did this by looking at other DMS's to see what standards were already in place.
UX Component Audit
Before I designed a component, I first did a UX audit to see how many of that type of component there were in both the desktop and mobile viewports.
Prioritization
The audit led to the ability to prioritize which components to create first.
The Solution:
We continue to design these TRAC® product compoents in Figma.
